~~ DOTL goes virtual ~~
Sunday, September 13th @ 4:30-6:30pm
The 2020 virtual DOTL Festival will highlight compilation performance videos dating from the Festival’s inception in 2014. (Full lineup below.) Though we will miss being outside with you on the front lawn of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, we are excited to share dance with our community in a safe way!
In addition to compilation highlights, the Sept. 13 DOTL streaming event will include panel discussions by NJ School, NJ Professional and NJ Emerging Artistic Directors, as well as an additional panel discussion with Artistic Directors now rescheduled for
A note from Charmaine & Laura:
"Like the rest of the world, especially in the arts, we knew that we needed to prepare for the repercussions of COVID-19. We had hoped that because our Festival falls in September and is outdoors that we could welcome our audience to the beautiful lawn of St. Luke's as usual. We stayed in touch with our DOTL artists, and shared updates in our monthly newsletter. In July we planned for three possible iterations and the final one, online, is where we landed. A virtual DOTL 2020 will happen on Sunday, September 13. We are happy to announce that DOTL artists and directors, since our inception in 2014, will join us as we share video and talk about dance in New Jersey since moving to the online platform and more. We hope you will join us.”

Celebrate our NJ Schools
Our hearts are bleeding. We are grieving. We want change.
We make art possible because we believe in a world that embraces all people and values their individual and unique contributions to our community.
We see a world that is not broken by inequity, but instead a world that grows stronger in the way that we care for each other.
We stand in solidarity with Black and Brown artists and our community of collaborators in the fight for justice against racism and police brutality.
We say these names - George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, and many more.
We dance and support dance because it is healing.
We need to heal.
We need to take action.
We need to make change.
We stand committed to support and move this effort forward.

~~~ open rehearsal recap~~~
On April 20, DOTL’s 2020 "Emerging Commissioned NJ Choreographer," (ECNJC) Amber Sloan, for the first time ever, presented her "Open Rehearsal" using the Zoom platform. We are all following the governmental guidelines to shelter-in-place. Because of COVID-19, this is our new normal, and Amber took the charge to present this year's "Open Rehearsal" with different prompts for her dancers and prompted the online audience from Drew University (with instructor and Director of DOTL's ECNJC initiative) class, students from a Montclair State University choreography class and many other guests. The "Open Rehearsal" has become an annual spring tradition, bringing together DOTL’s "Emerging C NJ Choreographer" with dance students and dance enthusiasts in around the local Montclair community.
Amber’s emphasis on creating different ways to dance apart and together was an exciting way to drive the conversation. The afternoon's event was a chance to share how she is working with her dancers currently, and to hear responses from the audience. For DOTL, the "Open Rehearsal" is part of our core mission to connect the various dance communities in New Jersey, on our way to presenting the annual fall festival.
